The first 48 hours after birth are fleeting, raw, and deeply emotional. Fresh 48 photography focuses on documenting this sacred window—when everything is new, quiet, and real—

before the outside world rushes in.

What Makes the First 48 So Special

-Baby’s first yawns, stretches, and sleepy expressions

-Tiny hospital details: bracelets, swaddles, bassinet, name card

-FRESH emotions: awe, exhaustion, joy, and connection

-The beginning of bonding and your baby's life

Why Fresh 48 Photos Matter

-These moments can’t be recreated once you’re home

-Parents are often too tired or emotional to notice the small details

-Photos preserve the story—not just how it looked, but how it felt

-They become a meaningful part of your child’s birth narrative

Closing Thoughts

I know what it’s like to be a newly postpartum mom with hormones raging; carrying emotions that feel like pure bliss one minute to tear-filled fear in the next. While also feeling like you’ve been hit by a freight train as you grit your teeth through pain and exhaustion to hold your new baby, pictures are probably the furthest thing from your mind. But trust me.. the first 48 hours can be so blurry and pass in a blink— the beauty within them deserves to be remembered AND relived later with new perspective. Fresh 48 photography ensures those first moments live on long after the hospital bracelets come off and those sleepless nights fade away.

FAQ: Why do I need Fresh 48 in addition to a newborn session?

That’s a great question. Unlike posed newborn sessions, these focus on raw, emotional, lifestyle moments like tiny details, the new immediate bonding, and maybe even meeting siblings or other family members. Believe it or not, there is actually a HUGE difference between a baby that is 2 days old or less and a baby that’s just a week or even 2 weeks old. In that time, your baby’s looks and features can change as well as how alert they are (which greatly affects the flexibility of posing, the time it takes to get baby settled/sleepy, etc.) I have found in the 2 years working directly with moms in the hospital that once they get home, they are spending all of their energy and time into learning their new baby. Unfortunately booking a photographer falls to the wayside and before you know it, 2 months have passed and the FRESH, brand new moments are gone.

FAQ: How do PBMC Fresh 48 sessions work?

I will be in touch closer to the estimated due date to check how things are going and if there are any updates that I need to be made aware of. Once your baby makes their grand entrance, I will coordinate a good time and day to visit with you (in hospital, birthing center, or home if you have a home birth). As long as everyone is doing well (outside of the "normal" recovery for mom and baby checks out okay), I will come to you between 24-48 hours after birth using window light as much as possible to keep things as intimate and natural as possible. And true to YOU.
